Depending on the occupation and the purpose of travel, an individual may qualify for a certain temporary work visa, which are:

H-1B Specialty Occupations and Fashion Models | Specialty Occupations, DOD Cooperative Research and Development Project Workers, and Fashion Models | H-1B visa holders are allowed a stay of 3 years or 6 years total |
H-2A Agricultural Workers | Sponsored foreign nationals who will fill temporary agricultural jobs | H-2A visa holders may be granted the period of time authorized on the temporary labor certification |
H-2B Non-Agricultural Workers | Sponsored foreign nationals who will fill temporary non-agricultural jobs | H-2B visa holders may be granted the period of time authorized on the temporary labor certification |
H-3 Nonimmigrant Trainee | A foreign trainee or Special education exchange visitor | H-3 visa holders are allowed a stay of 2 years as a trainee and 18 months as a special education exchange visitor |

L-1A Intracompany Transferee Executive or Manager | Foreigners of executive or managerial level | L-1A visa holders are allowed a stay of 1 or 3 years, according to the purpose |
L-1B Intracompany Transferee Specialized Knowledge | Foreign employees with specialized knowledge | L-1B visa holders are allowed a stay of 1 or 3 years, according to the purpose |
